What is the difference between coaching and counseling?

Coaching deals mostly with a person’s present and seeks to guide him or her into a more desirable future. Counseling mostly deals with a person’s past and trauma and seeks healing. Coaching is working with people who are in a healthy place in the present seeking to improve an area of their life.  Counseling is dealing with a person’s past.  There is usually pain and behavior that needs resolved.
